The Community Investment Board have funded a new monthly open mic event, called Drop the Mic!, launched by The Song School. This event is specifically for individuals under 18 and will be held on the last Sunday of every month at Twenty One in Southend. The funding provided will ensure the project can run for at least two years.

Drop the Mic! is free and provides an opportunity for children and young people in Southend to showcase original music, covers, learn new skills, and connect with other young musicians. The Song School will provide a full drum kit, keys, mics, and PA system. They can also provide guitars and bass upon request before the event.

Southend City Radio interviewed two participants of the inaugural Drop the Mic! session about how the program has positively impacted not only themselves but also other young people in the area. You can listen to their interview here.
