Who are the Community Investment Board?
The Community Investment Board is made up of local residents who volunteer their time to make investments that enable Southend residents to improve their lives.
They are responsible for awarding and distributing various grants and funding, including a 3-year £1.5 million Community Investment Fund from Southend on Sea City Council.
The board is made up of volunteers from across Southend who have experience using various community, health and social care services as well as arts and culture.
Their goal is to create a sustainable Southend in which residents actively participate in their communities, feel empowered to achieve their goals, and can lead fulfilling lives in a city they are proud of. Safety is also a top priority, and they strive to promote healthy living for all.

As a board member, you will be an expert based on your experiences living in Southend. If you are passionate about making positive changes throughout our city, this role is ideal for you. So far, the board has invested over £1 million in supporting voluntary sector organisations to enhance their impact.
Our vision for Southend is a sustainable community where residents are engaged in their wider communities, empowered to reach their full potential and enjoy healthy and fulfilling lives in a safe and proud city.
A successful candidate will be enthusiastic and passionate about Southend, have knowledge of our local community, and commit to being a member for at least one year, but ideally until September 2025. The board meets in person in Southend or virtually on the first Friday morning of each month.
