The Warrior Square Bridge Community Hub, run by the newly recruited Bridge Community Co-ordinator Emily (funded by the CIB), is progressing well. Emily has set up meetings with key people in Southend City Council and has visited the Council CCTV centre to see what is covered in Warrior Square. She has met with the Southend Neighbourhood Community Policing Team and held the first Warrior Square residents’ meeting at The Bridge in October, where 25 residents attended along with Bayo Aloba MP and his staff, as well as two Police and Community Support Officers. It is hoped that in the next meeting (held at the end of November) a Warrior Square Neighbourhood Watch Group will be established.

An international student café has recently been set up and now runs on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. Emily also attended two Southend University Freshers Fair events.

A “Carols in The Park” event is planned in Warrior Square in the lead-up to Christmas, and a night-club users support group is ongoing, providing support in the early hours of Saturday mornings to those vulnerable after visiting the night club next door. The Street Pastors base themselves there as well.

An older persons technology support group has also started, helping senior citizens become more aware of scams and what to look out for to keep themselves safer.
